Brentford open ‘discussions’ over 27-year-old deal

Keith Andrews has begun talks with one Brentford player over extending his stay at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Andrews took over from Thomas Frank at Brentford in the summer, and is navigating his first season as a Premier League manager.

Brentford’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle currently has the Bees 12th in the table, a steady six points above the relegation zone.

The west London side lost key players like Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa in the summer transfer window, and Andrews wants to try and ensure that stars stay at the club in the future.

The German has only played 145 minutes in the Premier League this season, but he was a constant presence in the middle of the park in the last campaign.

However, as per Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas on X, [21 November], Andrews is keen to keep the 27-year-old at Brentford.

I’ve had discussions with Vitaly, I like what he is about as a player and a person. This football club has been good for him as well,” Andrews said.

Brentford lining up £20m January move

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Brentford are targeting PSV midfielder Joey Veerman, who has a £20million release clause in his contract.

The release clause can be activated from January, and Andrews may want to act quickly after losing Fabio Carvalho for the season with an ACL injury.

Brentford attempted to sign Veerman in the summer, who is second in the Eredivisie for goal contributions.
