‘Brentford should be really worried as team hit by another devastating player exit’

Brentford could be set for a Premier League relegation battle next season after a difficult summer off the pitch.

The Bees suffered a major blow in the dugout, as long-term manager Thomas Frank decided to join Tottenham.

Captain Christian Norgaard has also left the club, after completing a move to Arsenal for an initial fee of around £10million.

To make matters worse, Bryan Mbeumo is set to make a switch to Manchester United, with fellow key man Yoane Wissa also linked with a move away from Brentford.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Bees will be battling to avoid the drop next season after all the departures.

‘Andrews will struggle at Brentford’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that new manager Keith Andrews will now be forced to “make magic happen” with a depleted squad.

Andrews was promoted from the coaching team to take over from the departing Frank, despite having no senior managerial experience.

Wyness added that he is very worried about Brentford’s prospects next season, and that they will certainly be in the bottom six.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m worried about Andrews. It’s devastating. I’m really worried about Brentford for this next season overall, with the players that are going.

“I think there’s been something like about 40 goals taken away with the players that have left, and there’s a new manager coming in trying to make magic happen with a squad that’s being depleted to this level.

“I really worry for them. They’re in my bottom six, certainly, for next year.”

Brentford fight to keep star forward

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Brentford want to try and price interested clubs out of a move for Wissa.

Wissa, 28, has attracted attention from the likes of Tottenham and Nottingham Forest over the summer transfer window.

Forest have already had a £22million bid for the attacker rejected by the West London side.

Sources say that clubs will be forced to pay over £50million to secure the services of the DR Congo international.
