Brighton blow Premier League rivals away after new reveal
Brighton are the only Premier League side who are ready for the new independent football regulator, sources have told Football Insider.
Brighton are widely regarded as one of the best-run clubs in the country after building a successful financial model under owner Tony Bloom.
The 2025 Fair Game Index report assessed clubs across England on financial sustainability, governance, transparency, fan engagement, ethics, diversity, environment and community engagement.
It revealed Brighton are one of just five clubs who are “regulator ready” alongside Cambridge United, Carlisle United, AFC Wimbledon and Bath City.
Brighton were given a gold award for their performance in the analysis, while fellow Premier League sides Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham were awarded silver, with Arsenal and Liverpool in the bronze category.
Brighton smash club record after £260m reveal
The Labour Party is currently fast-tracking secondary legislation to ensure the powers of the new independent football regulator will be switched on by November.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider the regulator has the powers to remove bad owners, with Sheffield Wednesday currently facing serious financial issues.
However, the picture at Brighton is completely different following years of success under Bloom.
The Seagulls have become a well-oiled machine on and off the pitch as they continue to operate under a sustainable model.
Brighton posted a club-record revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover surged from £204.5million in 2022-23 to £260.9m, including the New Monks Farm development.
The Sussex club’s broadcast revenue increased from £155.2m to £163.8m, while their matchday income rose from £24.6m to £27.9m after featuring in the Europa League.
Elsewhere, commercial revenue at the Amex Stadium improved from £17.9m to £20.9m across the same period.
Brighton recorded a pre-tax profit of £73.3m following Moises Caicedo’s record-breaking £115m move to Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
Brighton land £120m+ windfall after latest deals
Brighton continued to benefit significantly from player sales in the latest summer transfer window, having brought in around £126m.
Joao Pedro joined Chelsea in a £60m deal, ensuring the Seagulls made a healthy profit on the forward, who made the move to the Amex for less than £30m in the summer of 2023.
Elsewhere, Charalampos Kostoulas was Brighton’s most expensive signing of the window, having joined for around £30m from Olympiakos.
A further five new signings also arrived through the door, taking their overall spending to around £70m.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side have picked up four points from their opening three games of the new Premier League season, while they will face Bournemouth on Saturday (13 September).
