Brighton ‘considering’ sacking Fabian Hurzeler after fans mutiny

Brighton will be forced to consider sacking Fabian Hurzeler with fans expressing their frustrations after what has been a miserable run of form.

Hurzeler’s side lost 1-0 to rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday, have now won just one of their last 12 Premier League games, and have dropped to 14th in the table.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 32-year-old is not likely to be sacked imminently, but questions are being asked.

After Palace took the lead in the 61st minute, the Seagulls failed to have another shot and hardly tested Dean Henderson throughout despite the magnitude of the game.

Brighton are believed to have taken the crowd’s response into consideration, while they are keen to see the form turn around, but no immediate decision is expected.

Fabian Hurzeler facing questions at Brighton

Brown told Football Insider on 3 February that Brighton are unlikely to sack Hurzeler, after David Moyes spoke up in support of his fellow manager last weekend.

However, their current run of form has raised major concerns as they are now at risk of being sucked into the close-fought relegation battle.

It’s a funny situation with Hurzeler at Brighton,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s mostly spoken about very highly, Brighton get a lot of praise for the way they play and the way they operate with buying and selling players.

“But that’s all okay when you’re winning games, it’s not so good when you’re losing.

“Any manager in the league, if they go on a run with one win in 12 or whatever it is at Brighton, there are going to be questions asked about his position.

“I would be surprised if he was sacked at the moment, but if they keep losing games then obviously they’re going to be given a decision to make.

“If the fans are turning on him and singing ‘sacked in the morning’ and all of that, then the club have to be considering his position because it’s hard to turn that around.

“I think he’s still got a lot of support there and they hope he can get them back to winning ways, but if he can’t do that, it’s going to be a problem.”

Brighton fans turning on Hurzeler after Crystal Palace defeat

The biggest indication to Hurzeler’s future now being uncertain came with the reaction from the fans, with boos ringing out following the final whistle.

Chants of “sacked in the morning” and “you don’t know what you’re doing” also rang out from the home crowd as their faith in the manager is rapidly fading.

Brighton fans have called for Hurzeler to be sacked, with just eight points now separating the Seagulls from the relegation zone.

Brown warned Football Insider in September that Brighton fans are turning on Hurzeler, with large sections of the fanbase now unhappy with his influence.

That relationship is unlikely to improve if results continue to falter, and failure to turn around their form could see the boss ejected from his position.
