Brighton fans furious after ‘idiotic’ Evan Ferguson transfer developments

Brighton fans have expressed their frustration following reports that the club may sell Evan Ferguson on a permanent deal.

Football Insider revealed back in November that Ferguson was seeking an exit to secure more playing time, but most expected it would be a loan deal.

However, The Athletic reported on 28 January that the Seagulls are “open to the possibility” of a permanent sale of the Irish international.

Fans have reacted angrily to the idea of selling one of their brightest prospects, especially with just days remaining in the transfer window.

Brighton fans express frustration over Evan Ferguson situation

It’s been a challenging season for Ferguson, who has managed just two Premier League starts under manager Fabian Hurzeler and a total of 11 appearances.

The young striker rose to prominence during the 2022/23 season, scoring an impressive 16 goals and providing five assists in all competitions. However, his output dropped to six goals last season under Roberto De Zerbi, and he has since struggled for consistent playing time following the arrival of the new coach last summer.

West Ham were linked with a potential loan move for Ferguson back in December, but no deal has materialised. A loan would have given the striker an opportunity to regain his form and return to Brighton as an improved player. However, recent reports suggest his departure could now be permanent.

Fans have reacted with outrage, drawing parallels to the sale of Viktor Gyokeres, who was sold for a small fee and is now regarded as one of the most sought-after centre-forwards in the world.

One supporter described the decision as “baffling”, another “idiotic”, while another questioned, “What are the club thinking?” The prospect of permanently losing Ferguson has clearly struck a nerve with fans who believe the young talent could still have a future at the Amex Stadium.
