Brighton: Jordan Henderson sends ‘amazing’ message to James Milner after retirement news
Jordan Henderson has congratulated his former Liverpool teammate James Milner after the Brighton midfielder confirmed his retirement.
Milner retires from football after 24 years in the game, but the 40-year-old only made seven starts for Brighton this season.
The 40-year-old’s contract at Brighton expires at the end of the month, after joining the Seagulls from Liverpool in 2023.
Milner, who holds the record for the most appearances in Premier League history, won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup during his time at Anfield.
Only 16 years old when he made his Premier League debut for Leeds, Milner also played for Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle during his illustrious career.
James Milner a ‘role model’ to Jordan Henderson
Milner spent his entire eight years at Liverpool playing alongside Henderson, who was also a teammate at international level with England.
At the same time as Henderson was appointed captain of Liverpool in 2015, Milner became vice-captain of the club, as the pair became key figures during Jurgen Klopp’s time in England.

Henderson clearly still holds Milner in high regard, as he posted a message on his Instagram soon after Milner’s retirement had been confirmed.
Sharing multiple pictures of them together, Henderson posted: “Thank you for everything mate! What a career and you deserve absolutely everything you have achieved.
“It was an honour to share so many amazing memories together, and we had some fun along the way. Role model and inspiration to so many people and that will continue forever.
“Enjoy some time with the family now and good luck with whatever is next! Legend.”
James Milner could still stay at Brighton
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Brighton were prepared to offer Milner a new short-term contract.
Milner had started the final day defeat to Manchester United as Brighton chased European football, with his experience at the club seen as invaluable.
Manager Fabian Hurzeler, who is seven years younger than Milner, could still look to keep him at the club in some capacity.
Milner has not ruled out a career in coaching, and has completed his UEFA badges, in what could be the next step in his career.
