Brighton on verge of smashing Premier League record

Brighton are on the verge of creating a new Premier League record as they prepare to take on Man United at Old Trafford this weekend.

Brighton oversaw a busy summer transfer window as numerous high-profile players departed the club and a number of new signings were brought in to replace them.

Joao Pedro left Brighton to join Chelsea in a big blow to their European hopes for this season, while the likes of Evan Ferguson, Simon Adingra and Pervis Estupinan also departed.

Fabian Hurzeler‘s side have been inconsistent so far in 2025-26, with three wins, three draws and two losses from their first eight league games and 12 goals for and 11 against up to now.

Some players have impressed, while some have failed to live up to expectations as yet, but the Seagulls have the chance to become Premier League record-holders with a victory at Man United on Saturday (25 October).

Brighton can become first club to win four consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford

Man United and Ruben Amorim should be worried ahead of this clash, as Brighton have an exemplary record when they travel north to Old Trafford.

The Seagulls lost in each of their first five trips to the north-west following promotion to the Premier League in 2017, but they have since won their last three by scores of 2-1, 3-1 and 3-1 again.

Their previous visit in January 2025 saw Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter all score as Bruno Fernandes netted from the spot for Amorim’s side.

As a result of their recent record, Brighton can become the first club in Premier League history to win four consecutive games against the Red Devils at Old Trafford with another victory on Saturday.

Brighton are United’s bogey side in all types of games, as they have won five of the last six league meetings between the sides, including home matches too.

What Fabian Hurzeler has said ahead of Saturday’s clash

Aside from their stellar record in this fixture, Brighton will also be buoyed by their strong recent form, with no defeats in their last five games and a 2-1 win over Newcastle last time out as Danny Welbeck netted a brace.

Hurzeler spoke to the media on Friday (24 October) ahead of the game and praised his opposite number while calling for his players to deal with the pressure placed on them by their recent form.

He said: “I am really looking forward to competing against one of the best managers. They can score in every phase.

“It is always pressure but on the other side I say to my players you have to enjoy it. You can do what you love. I want to see the joy, the passion you have for football every day.”

When asked about his thoughts on United finally winning two games in a row under Amorim, he replied: “We were also not able to win two games in a row so we have to look at ourselves,” in a clear message to his players that he wants a record-breaking victory this weekend.
