‘Brighton scrap Julio Enciso transfer plan amid injury setback’

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler is having to reevaluate his transfer plans following a lengthy injury suffered by one of his players.

Hurzeler enjoyed a fine debut season in charge of Brighton as the Seagulls finished eighth in the Premier League table.

However the German may have to rebuild his squad this summer after Joao Pedro departed to join Chelsea and with concerns that other stars may follow.

Pervis Estupinian is a target for Manchester United, whilst midfielder Matt O’Riley is subject to interest from Italy.

Enciso move scuppered by latest blow

As reported by The Athletic on July 17, Julio Enciso will not be sold during this window as the Paraguay international has been ruled out of action for three months.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich, but he now requires surgery on a damaged knee.

Brighton are currently on a ten-day training camp in Spain as part of their pre-season preparations, but Enciso has not joined up with the squad.

Striker Evan Ferguson has also not joined up with the squad, with the Ireland international likely to head out on loan, with Italian club AS Roma interested in a deal.

Football Insider Verdict

This is a set back for Enciso coming after his positive loan spell at Ipswich and ahead of a new challenge that could have kick started the 21-year-old’s career.

Enciso was powerless to keep Ipswich in the Premier League, but his displays showcased the talent that the Paraguayan undoubtedly has.

With the amount of options in attack and midfield manager that Hurzeler has available, chances for Enciso were always going to be tough to come by.

The Seagulls are not in European competition next season and will be focused on qualifying next season after only missing out by four points last campaign.

Hurzeler has already made six signings this summer to try and break into those top seven places.

Transfer business does not appear to be finished at the Amex as Brighton have lined up Liverpool’s Harvey Elilott following his impressive performances at the Euros for the England Under-21 squad.

Elliott is valued at £40m and Brighton will have to fend off competition from other interested Premier League sides.
