Injury expert fears multiple Lamptey 'setbacks' after Brighton latest

Tariq Lamptey could encounter multiple “minor setbacks” on the road back to full fitness for Brighton.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Lamptey made his first start in 11 months in the Seagulls’ 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on 6 November.

As quoted by The Argus after the match, the youngster revealed: “I felt quite strong, even towards the end of the game.”

The full-back-cum-winger was dogged by hamstring issues last term and the Brighton medical staff decided surgery was the best option.

Dinnery hailed Lamptey for his performances since his return but also warned that there may be bumps on the road to a full recovery.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I think up until this point, Brighton have done a really good job of managing Lamptey.

“The top form of the rest of their squad has helped. Defensively, they’ve been sound. That eases the pressure on throwing Lamptey back in there.

“You would hope his procedure would remedy any issues. But given the time he has had out, there could be minor setbacks along the way.

“We will hope that going under the knife hasn’t been a major issue. So far, he’s looked really sharp and looks to have picked up where he left off.

“If he can get those minutes in those legs, he can be a huge player for Brighton.”
