‘Brighton strike bargain deal for PSV Eindhoven title-winner’

Brighton are set to confirm another signing, in what looks to be a further example of their superb recruitment strategy.

The Seagulls are renowned for their ability to find bargains, and sell the same players on for a massive profit a few seasons later.

Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Alexis Mac Allister are just three success stories in the last few years, with each of them being sold for significantly more than they were purchased for.

Kaoru Mitoma looks likely to be the next Brighton player to depart for a profit, with the winger expected to move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer.

Mitoma has helped Fabian Hurzeler’s side to a guaranteed top-half finish in the Premier League, with a Conference League spot still a slight possibility.

Brighton sign PSV defender

Brighton have already confirmed the signing of Tommy Watson, with the 18-year-old talent joining from Sunderland at the end of the season.

It looks as if the Seagulls have dipped into the transfer market again, this time opting for a slightly older and more experienced player.

The Daily Mail (21 May) are reporting that Brighton have agreed a deal to sign PSV defender Olivier Boscagli on a free transfer.

The south coast side had an £8m bid rejected last summer, with Boscagli staying at PSV as they pipped Ajax to the Eredivisie title on the final day.

The 27-year-old Frenchman joined PSV from Nice back in 2019, and played 30 league games for the Dutch side this season.

Brighton’s smart business continues

Football Insider Verdict

In an era where it seems every second transfer is for upwards of £50m, it is refreshing to see a team like Brighton get their recruitment right time and time again, without breaking the bank.

Caicedo was sold to Chelsea in 2023 for almost 25 times what the Seagulls paid for the midfielder two years earlier, and if Mitoma is sold it will likely be for a similar profit.

Boscagli is moving to the Amex on a free transfer, meaning there is barely any risk involved in the deal.

The defender will probably not be sold on for a huge profit due to his age, but the recruitment team also understand the importance of experience, which is why Brighton are set to offer James Milner a new deal.

However, that doesn’t mean they won’t be seeking out the young talent in the summer, with the Seagulls already tabling a bid for Olympiacos striker Charalampos Kostoulas, who is tipped to be a huge star.
