Brighton to smash £120m+ record if De Zerbi joins Man United – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has backed Brighton to smash the Premier League profit record again with manager Roberto De Zerbi set to leave.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Seagulls could eclipse last season’s figures if big compensation is paid out for the Man United-linked boss.
Brighton published their 2022-23 accounts on 2 April, revealing a club-record turnover of £204.5million and a Premier League record of £122.8million in profit.
The south coast club received a British-record transfer fee of £115million for Moises Caicedo’s move to Chelsea, and that fee will be included in their 2023-24 accounts.
De Zerbi, who has spoken out about a potential exit this summer, is under contract at the Amex Stadium until June 2026 – meaning Brighton will be due compensation if he moves on.
Man United move for De Zerbi could help Brighton smash record again
Football Insider revealed in February that the Italian is a very strong contender to become the next Man United manager.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They may break that record again this summer.
“They could go even further beyond that mark if Roberto De Zerbi is to leave the club.
“They’ve managed to set themselves up now for a good couple of seasons.
“Good luck to them – it’s fantastic, and I’m pleased that they’ve been able to do it.
“Their real strength has been to sell top players and keep going.

“I know David Weir, the sporting director, as he played at Everton during my time there. He’s a deep thinker and a great talent.
“I wish him all the best.”
