Brighton’s stance on sacking Fabian Hurzeler revealed after David Moyes verdict

Brighton are not planning to sack Fabian Hurzeler as things stand despite growing frustrations from large sections of the fanbase.

Hurzeler’s side drew 1-1 with Everton on Saturday after a late equaliser from Beto, and have now won just one of their last 11 Premier League games.

The Seagulls have dropped to 13th place in the table as a result, and are at risk of being leapfrogged by rivals Crystal Palace ahead of their clash next weekend.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Hurzeler‘s position is safe as things stand and is being backed to turn things around.

This comes after David Moyes was left baffled by the suggestions, as he urged Brighton fans to be careful what they wish for, insisting the 32-year-old is doing an “unbelievable” job.

David Moyes backed up in Fabian Hurzeler sack claim

Brown warned Football Insider in December that Brighton may be forced to sack Hurzeler if the fans turn on him, despite being reluctant to do so.

The plan at the Amex remains to stick by the manager with the belief that they will find consistency and rise up what is a very congested Premier League table.

David Moyes got it exactly right with what he said,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He knows what it’s like, we had it when I was with him at West Ham, sometimes the fans can get ahead of themselves and start thinking they’re better than they are.

“Brighton are a good, stable, Premier League club and there’s a lot to be said for that.

“Fans can look and think they should be qualifying for Europe, but that’s not the be all and end all.

“I’d be very surprised if Brighton were thinking of sacking Hurzeler at the moment, I don’t think that’s going to be part of their plans.

“They’ve had a difficult run, but every team in the Premier League goes through rough patches.

“If they can put two or three wins together they could climb up four or five places and then there would be no issue, so for now there’s no problem there.”

Brighton brushed off Lewis Dunk interest

Lewis Dunk remains a stable part of the starting XI at Brighton, with their long-serving captain still playing a crucial role both on the pitch and behind the scenes.

As a result, they ruled out any departure for him during the mid-season transfer window, eventually managing to hold on to him beyond the deadline.

This came after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Brighton rebuffed Nottingham Forest’s advances for Dunk after an enquiry in the window’s late stages.

Forest boss Sean Dyche is a big fan of the defender and had targeted a move for the central defender to bolster his defensive options in the transfer window.

Dunk, who has made 22 appearances so far this season, agreed a one-year extension with the Seagulls in December to keep him at Brighton until 2027.
