Brighton’s updated stance on sacking Fabian Hurzeler revealed after ‘nightmare’

Fabian Hurzeler is facing growing calls for his head at Brighton with many calling for his sacking after they were dumped out of the FA Cup.

Brighton lost 3-0 against Liverpool and were eliminated from the competition, leaving them with only the Premier League to focus on after a dismal run of form.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace could be the catalyst which sees the boss sacked.

Oliver Glasner’s side secured their only win in 14 games at the Amex, leaving fans enraged, while Brighton themselves now have just two wins in 15 games.

While there are not believed to be any immediate plans for Hurzeler to be sacked, there is a growing possibility they could move on at the end of the season.

Brighton make new Fabian Hurzeler sack plan

Brown told Football Insider on 9 February that Brighton are considering sacking Hurzeler, but are not expected to pull the trigger despite fans’ frustrations.

The Seagulls have previous for letting managers leave at the end of a season, having done the same with Roberto De Zerbi after letting him see out the final game.

It was a nightmare for them against Liverpool,” Brown told Football Insider.

“When you’re struggling for form in the Premier League, sometimes a cup run can do you the world of good to raise the mood and feeling around the place.

“But now they’ve been knocked out of that, they can only focus on what’s happening in the league, and that hasn’t been good enough.

“Crystal Palace certainly didn’t do the manager any favours. Losing at home against your biggest rivals is always going to pile on the pressure.

“It’s a difficult one for Brighton, I don’t think they’ll be too concerned about the position they’re in right now, but things are going to have to improve.

“It could be that they look to make a change at the end of the season rather than doing it right now, even if their results don’t improve.

“When the fans are against him and questions are being asked, it’s hard to come back from that.”

Brighton fans become increasingly upset with Hurzeler

Brighton fans have largely turned on Hurzeler and are calling for his head as a result of what has been a dismal season at the Amex.

That relationship is unlikely to improve if results continue to falter, and failure to turn around their form could see the boss ejected from his position.

This comes after Brown warned Football Insider in September that Brighton fans are turning on Hurzeler, with large sections of the fanbase now unhappy with his influence.

Meanwhile, potential replacements have already been linked with moves to the Amex, with Brighton eyeing Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna among their targets.

Kjetil Knutsen, Bo Svensson and Edin Terzic are also believed to be on their shortlist should they be forced into a decision amid fans’ mutiny.
