Michael Brown has tipped Steven Gerrard to utilise a “great ally” in Liverpool and convince a couple of their players to join Rangers on loan this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds and Spurs midfielder claimed Ibrox would be the perfect place for Curtis Jones in particular to progress following his breakthrough season on Merseyside.
As revealed by Football Insider last week, the Gers are plotting a fresh swoop for the attacking midfielder when the transfer window reopens.
The Glasgow giants were rebuffed in their two approaches in January as Gerrard looked to add another Liverpool youngster to his ranks.
Jones already has two goals in his nine first-team appearances for the Champions League winners and likely Premier League champions.
A sensational long-range strike to knock rivals Everton out of the FA Cup in January will live long in the memory at Anfield.
Asked if a loan move to Ibrox would suit Jones, Brown told Football Insider: “Gerrard’s got a great ally at Liverpool in Klopp and he’ll certainly be trying to pick their pockets to try get a couple of players.
“What’s great for any attacking young player is you’ve got a lot of the ball playing for Rangers in that league.
“It helps get your confidence, get in some good areas and I think it’s great for their progression to go to a big club and play a load of games.”
Jones has demonstrated he is a cut above youth level, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in his 18 appearances in the Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League.
Gerrard has taken a number of Reds prospects up to Scotland since becoming Gers manager in 2018 – Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo all making the move to Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED preliminary talks are underway for goalkeeper’s contract to be extended.
