Confirmed: Aston Villa agree one January deal, second could be done by Friday night

By Amir Mir

Steve Bruce has revealed that Aston Villa are closing in on a double January swoop with one signing already “verbally” agreed.

Promotion expert Bruce, who was speaking ahead of Villa’s clash with Wigan on Saturday, stated that both deals could be in the bag by Friday evening.

Furthermore, the Birmingham Mail claim that one of those additions will be a new goalkeeper.

Villa, who lost for the first time under Bruce last Saturday against Leeds, are six points off the play-off spots.

They will be looking to bounce back from that 2-0 defeat against relegation threatened Wigan at the weekend at Villa Park.

Ahead of the clash Bruce spoke about the two signings Villa could add to their squad in their promotion push this term.

“I already have one I hope in the bag, verbally. That will be good for us,” said Bruce, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “By this afternoon I possibly could have two, which would be a really good addition to us.”

If Bruce is to add a new shot stopper to his ranks then it will result in Villa’s 21-year-old keeper Pierluigi Gollini having his place under threat.

The Italian was at fault in Villa’s last defeat when he failed to clear a cross, which resulted in Leeds winger Kemar Roofe opening the scoring in what was an even game at that time.

Nonetheless, the Midlands outfit will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record on home soil this term when they take on Wigan.

They have won their last three home games at Villa Park and have lost on only occasion since Bruce arrived in mid-October.
