Exclusive: Bruce delivers verdict on Patrick Bamford amid demolition job
Patrick Bamford has the total faith of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United because he’s capable of “magic”, according to Alex Bruce.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United defender delivered his verdict on the hit-and-miss striker as his former side extended their winning run with a 4-0 demolition job against Hull City today.
Bamford led the Leeds attack for the 35th time out of a possible 36 Championship matches this season but failed to get on the scoresheet for the seventh consecutive game.
He lasted 67 minutes before being replaced by Tyler Roberts, with United scoring twice following the substitution including two from Bamford’s replacement.
Asked by Football Insider why Bielsa has demonstrated immense faith in the former Middlesbrough man this season, Bruce replied: “Because he’s got ability, really, I think that’s the biggest thing.
“He’s got that little bit of magic, you’ve seen it over recent years where he’s got great
ability. He can go and unlock a team and carries that little bit of spark to change a game.”

Bamford has scored just 12 goals in all competitions this season and has a one-in-three strike rate since joining Leeds from Middlesbrough for £7million in the summer of 2018.
Bruce explained why the former England Under-21 international has struggled to live up to the potential that persuaded Chelsea to prise him from Nottingham Forest in his teens and have him on their books for five years.
“It’s just doing it on a consistent basis which you could say has stopped him kicking on over recent years,” he added to Football Insider.
“Since he’s gone to Leeds he looks like he’s enjoying it, his performance levels have been good.”
In other Leeds United news, it has been REVEALED that the club agreed sensational £19million deal with Premier League club just a few weeks ago.
