Alex Bruce has suggested Leeds United stars may be “shattered” by the methods of Marcelo Bielsa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Russell Edge, the ex-United defender said it would be fair to quiz the Argentine about his demanding training regime following the collapses in the team’s form.
United have lost four and drawn two of their last six Championship matches with their hopes of automatic promotion suffering a massive dent.
Asked by Football Insider if Bielsa asks too much physically of his players, Bruce said: “Well that’s the natural thing to think, isn’t it?
“When you consider what people say about his training techniques, he works them really hard, double sessions, this, that and the other.
“Are they getting to the point of the season now where you’re seeing the players are tired? If he was sat here he’d probably say: ‘No, this is the way I’ve always managed, this is
the way I do it so you like it or lump it.’
“Who would I be to sit here and say his beliefs are right or wrong, it’s the way he wants to do things but that would be the natural thing to point at him at the moment.
“Well, are your players shattered?”
Leeds ended a losing run by drawing 1-1 at Brentford in midweek and are in action again tomorrow when they host Bristol City at Elland Road.
Bielsa’s side go into the weekend second in the Championship table but just three points ahead of Lee Johnson’s side, who are in seventh.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are set to announce a blockbuster deal this month after extensive negotiations.
