Bruce: Aston Villa will move to sign PL star after transfer announcement
By Matt Farr
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has joked that he will attempt to sign Chelsea centre-back John Terry this summer.
It was announced on Chelsea’s official club Twitter account on Monday afternoon that the 36-year-old was set to quit Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, bringing to an end a 22-year association with the club.

But Bruce issued a tongue-in-cheek response following Aston Villa’s 3-1 defeat to Fulham by opening the door for the Premier League veteran to move to Villa Park.
He said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail: “Well he can come to us if he wants. In fact I might just get on the phone right now.”
Terry is currently the most decorated player in Chelsea’s illustrious history, having won 14 major honours with the club, including four Premier League titles and one Champions League crown.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the joint decision has been made for him to move on, although Terry wants to continue playing.
The 78-time capped ex-England international has become only a fringe player in the first team squad in recent seasons, and has made just 10 appearances in all competitions this term.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, are likely to be in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer, and even though a move appears unrealistic, Terry would be a fantastic addition.
Football Insider verdict
As it has already been made clear, Bruce’s comments on Terry are nothing more than a tongue-in-cheek remark. When Terry quits Chelsea at the end of the season, it seems most likely that he will seal a lucrative move to a club either in China or the MLS. No decision has yet been made on where the Chelsea defender wants to play next season, but it looks the most likely option given his loyalty in the Premier League to the Blues. But while a move to Aston Villa may come as a big surprise, the club would widely benefit from his experience, knowledge and talents.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club are reportedly in a four-way chase for this £4million-rated midfielder.
