Bruno Fernandes joined a host of players in reacting to Cristiano Ronaldo’s emotional message following Portugal’s impressive victory over Spain.
Fernandes had been one of Manchester United’s standout performers throughout the 2024/25 campaign, registering a remarkable 38 goal contributions across all competitions.
Yet, it was a season to forget for the club as a whole. United slumped to a shocking 15th-place finish in the Premier League and were denied European silverware after a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.
Despite his influence, uncertainty surrounded his future in recent weeks, as Fernandes was linked with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal. They were pushing to make the midfielder their marquee signing of the summer.
However, the Portuguese international has made his stance clear, after Fernandes turned down a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal to remain in European football.

Fernandes featured for Portugal as they defeated Spain to lift their second Nations League title, winning on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Portugal’s captain and national icon Ronaldo lifted the trophy and shared a passionate message on Instagram that read: “And ours!!!” (translated from Portuguese).
Fernandes showed his appreciation by liking the post, joined by teammates Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu, as well as Chelsea legend John Terry.
Man United weigh up Kobbie Mainoo sale after Fernandes decision
It’s been suggested that Fernandes was convinced to remain at Old Trafford after the club demonstrated ambition in the transfer market, with Man United having secured the signing of Matheus Cunha and entered advanced talks with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Al-Hilal were prepared to submit a huge offer for the 30-year-old midfielder, but with Fernandes now expected to stay, another player could be sacrificed. Kobbie Mainoo has emerged as a potential departure.
Football Insider revealed Man United are willing to listen to offers for the Mainoo this summer.
As a homegrown player, any fee for Mainoo would be registered as pure profit in the club’s accounts, which may play a significant role in their decision to cash in on the highly rated 20-year-old.
