Bruno Fernandes reacts to Mason Mount’s message after Man United masterclass

Mason Mount had an incredible performance off the bench for Man United against Athletic Club and shared a message with the supporters.

Man United produced a comeback victory at Old Trafford to book their place in the Europa League final with a 4-1 win, setting up an all-English clash with Tottenham.

Ruben Amorim’s side won the first-leg 3-0 but nerves may have started as the visitors took the lead thanks to a stunning strike from Mikel Jauregizar.

However, Mount had a brilliant cameo off the bench for Man United, as he came on in the 62nd minute and quickly made his mark. The midfielder pulled one back with a brilliant turn and low finish into the bottom corner.

Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund soon followed with goals of their own, but Mount stole the spotlight once again. Capitalising on a loose pass from goalkeeper Julen Agirrezebala, he struck from near the halfway line to seal the tie and cap off a memorable night.

Following his game-changing display, the England international shared a message with fans, reflecting on a performance that may go some way towards winning over parts of the United support.

Mason Mount silences critics with stunning brace for Man United

The midfielder took to Instagram after his impressive performance, writing: “Moments like these are worth the wait. Back to Bilbao Reds!”

His post was met with plenty of support, with Bruno Fernandes and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier among those who liked the photo. Harry Maguire responded with applause emojis, while former Chelsea teammate Trevoh Chalobah commented: “Proud of you brother, never gave up.”

Man United supporters have been frustrated with Mount this season, especially due to his limited impact with the side since his move in 2023.

Persistent injuries have limited his involvement, with just 685 minutes played across all competitions this term.

However, since returning from injury in March, the 26-year-old has come off the bench in every game. After scoring the winner against Brentford last weekend, his brace against Athletic Club suggests he’s rediscovering his sharpness and confidence at a crucial stage of the season.

Despite leading Manchester United to a Europa League final, Amorim continues to face mounting pressure due to the club’s dismal domestic form, which sees them sitting 15th in the Premier League.

United are winless in their last six league matches and have collected just 39 points overall. While their European campaign has provided a lifeline, questions remain over Amorim’s long-term suitability.

Should he deliver silverware at his first attempt, it would strengthen his case for backing in the transfer market this summer – but anything less may not be enough to convince the board.
