Bruno Fernandes reacts to Viktor Gyokeres’ emotional ‘thank you’ amid Man United rumours

Viktor Gyokeres could be reuniting with former manager Ruben Amorim this summer, and his recent social media post has caught the attention of Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Over the past two seasons, Gyokeres has been finding the net at a dramatic rate in Portugal, scoring 68 league goals since his move from Coventry in 2023.

Now, the 27-year-old looks destined for a switch to the Premier League, as he tries to replicate his goalscoring exploits in the top tier of English football.

Gyokeres has attracted the interest of Arsenal, but United are also looking to bring the striker to Old Trafford as part of their major summer rebuild.

United want Gyokeres

Back in April, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United were confident in their pursuit of Gyokeres, and expected to get the deal done once the window opened.

The striker was signed by Amorim while the Portuguese manager was still at Sporting, and the pair struck up a good relationship while working together.

Gyokeres turned 27 on Wednesday (4 June), and took to Instagram to show appreciation for all his birthday wishes, posting a number of photos of his recent cup and league successes with Sporting.

Under the post, the Swede added the caption: “Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes, it was amazing and even better than last year. I love you all,” with United midfielder Fernandes liking the message, as the rumours of a Red Devils move continue to swirl.

Gyokeres will score goals anywhere

Football Insider Verdict

There has been plenty of scepticism about the validity of Gyokeres’ goals, due to the fact that most see the level of competition in Liga Portugal as much weaker than in the Premier League.

However, the notion that the Swedish international is only hitting ridiculous numbers due to the quality of his opposition is false.

The Sporting striker scored six goals in eight Champions League games earlier this season, including a hat-trick against Manchester City, proving that he is a natural finisher, regardless of who he is playing against.

We also saw him tearing up the Championship during his final year at Coventry, and the likes of Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney have shown in the past that the step up to the Premier League from the second tier is possible.

Undoubtedly, playing for Man United is a completely different level compared to Sporting, but Gyokeres has all the attributes to be a success at Old Trafford.
