Bruno Fernandes sends amusing message to Harry Maguire after what he did for Man United

Bruno Fernandes was among several Manchester United players to send a humorous message to Harry Maguire following his standout performance against Athletic Club.

Man United moved a step closer to the Europa League final after a dominant 3-0 win in the semi-final first leg against Athletic Club.

Casemiro opened the scoring with a smart finish, after a pinpoint cross from Maguire following a brilliant solo run that was flicked onto the Brazilian.

Fernandes added a second from the penalty spot before capping off the performance with a third goal following a slick team move, giving United a healthy lead heading into the second leg.

The game had contentious decisions as United were awarded a penalty and Daniel Vivian was sent off for Athletic Club, but former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett praised the referee after ignoring Alejandro Garnacho’s ‘dive’.

While United boss Ruben Amorim will be thrilled with the overall display, it’s Maguire’s contribution to the opening goal that may stand out most.

The England international played a vital part in United’s opening goal, popping up on the right wing before driving past his marker and delivering a cross that was flicked on to Casemiro to head home.

After the 3–0 win, Maguire shared a post on social media that read: “A good start in Bilbao – looking forward to the next leg at Old Trafford.” While the message was straightforward, his teammates were quick to highlight the flair involved in his assist.

Fernandes joked in the comments, calling him “Harroldinho”, while Victor Lindelof chimed in with: “My winger.” Mason Mount and Arsenal’s Declan Rice also liked the post, showing appreciation for Maguire’s display.

Maguire had another impressive performance under Amorim, as he is continuing to be a reliable presence in United’s back line. He has made 33 appearances this season, scoring four goals and clocking up over 2,200 minutes.

Man United to open contract talks with Harry Maguire

Maguire signed a one-year extension back in January, a move that initially drew criticism from some supporters. However, his resurgence in form this season has been difficult to ignore.

With his contract set to expire next summer, Football Insider revealed Man United are expected to hold further talks with Maguire at the end of the season to clarify his role going forward.

Although he has regained trust on the pitch, it remains to be seen whether the club see him as a long-term part of their plans under Amorim.
