Bruno Fernandes sends message to Kobbie Mainoo amid Man United exit whisper

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes shared a message pictured with Kobbie Mainoo despite speculation surrounding the youngster’s future.

Mainoo endured a frustrating campaign last season, struggling with injuries and inconsistency that ultimately saw him fail to secure a regular place in Ruben Amorim’s starting XI.

Doubts continue to grow over the midfielder’s long-term future at Old Trafford, with Football Insider revealing that Man United are prepared to listen to offers for the Mainoo this summer.

With the club keen to raise funds, Mainoo could be among the players sacrificed, particularly after Fernandes turned down a big-money move to Al-Hilal and other potential sales, including Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, have failed to materialise so far.

Still, despite the speculation, Mainoo featured in Fernandes’ latest post, pictured alongside the captain in a series of training shots as they prepare for the new season.

The Portuguese midfielder posted on his Instagram story with pictures from United’s latest training session as the squad returned from their summer holidays.

Fernandes reshared an image originally posted by the club’s official account, captioned “Sunday smiles” tagging Kobbie Mainoo and adding a salute emoji in support.

Despite the show of camaraderie, Mainoo’s future remains uncertain.

The 20-year-old has yet to sign a new contract with United, and any potential sale would represent pure profit in financial terms, which is a key consideration for the club as they look to balance the books.

Former club scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that Man United would prefer to sell Mainoo to an overseas side this summer, amid interest from Chelsea.

He featured 37 times in all competitions last season but only made 19 starts, with midfield competition coming from Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro.

As Mainoo edges towards the exit, another academy graduate could be following him out of Old Trafford.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has claimed Man United would accept offers in the region of £35 million for Rashford, as they aim to reduce the wage bill and rebuild under Amorim.

He does not feature in the new manager’s long-term plans and has been given extra time off this summer to help facilitate a move away.

If United manage to cash in on both Mainoo and Rashford, it could provide a welcome financial boost to support further signings during the window.
