Man United fans have torn into Bruno Fernandes after his performance in their opening Europa League clash against FC Twente at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s men drew 1-1 against the Eredivisie outfit, with Christian Eriksen’s opening goal levelled out by a Sam Lammers strike.
Among some of United’s worst performers was the captain, whose displays have been under intense scrutiny from the crowd at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
Fernandes has come in for plenty of criticism following the game as he failed to make enough of an impact to see United claim all three points.
However, it was not just his performance against Twente which has left fans’ raging, but his overall displays so far this season.
The defeat follows a trend for United, who have only won three of their eight games this season, as their key players – notably including the 30-year-old – have failed to step up.
Often, Fernandes’ displays can reflect that of the team. When he is off form, the team very rarely performs, but when he’s on, he is their chief difference-maker.
Given the low standard of his displays in recent weeks, United are continuing to struggle, and fans are quickly becoming frustrated.

Fernandes has provided four assists in eight appearances so far this season, but his contribution has not been enough to ease the tension in the crowd at Old Trafford.
As pressure continues to build on Ten Hag’s job after the string of poor results, some of the club’s most senior players have also been brought into question.
Taking to social media in reaction to the game, many are questioning the captain’s continued presence in the first team and have labelled him “shocking”.
