Bruno Fernandes slammed by pundit amid journalist’s Man United transfer update – ‘it must annoy you as a teammate’
Alan Hutton has claimed Christian Eriksen could rival Bruno Fernandes at Man United next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League defender suggested there will be pressure on Fernandes, 27, if Eriksen, 30, joins.
On Monday (4 July), journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed that Eriksen had verbally agreed to join the Red Devils on a free transfer.
The Denmark international is currently a free agent after his contract at Brentford expired.
The London club were keen to retain his services.
When asked if he thought Eriksen could rival Fernandes for a place in Erik ten Hag’s side, Hutton told Football Insider: “Of course he’ll rival him.
“I think if we look at Fernandes last season, I don’t think it was his best. The way he was throwing his arms up – it must annoy you as a teammate, I’ve had teammates like that in the past and there’s nothing worse than if you’re having a difficult time and they’re throwing their arms up in the air and taking a tantrum.
“So, there’s going to be pressure on him now, we know how good a player he is. We know what he’s capable of, but also we know that about Eriksen. We saw it last year in the Brentford team, he was probably one of the main reasons that kept them in the division, so I think he adds something different.

“Of course it’s an option but he’ll be pushing him all the way. You’ve got a World Cup coming up at Christmas time so Christian Eriksen will want to be playing football.
“So that’s probably one of the main reasons about his decision, he has to go and play. He won’t want to sit on the bench so it will be an interesting one to see how it works out.“
