Bruno Guimaraes ‘concern’ emerges ahead of Newcastle vs Athletic Club
Bruno Guimaraes could miss Newcastle United’s clash against Athletic Club on Wednesday (November 5).
Guimaraes made his 14th appearance of the season on Sunday as Newcastle were beaten 3-1 by West Ham United, despite the Brazilian providing the assist for Jacob Murphy’s goal.
The 27-year-old has been in inspired form for the Magpies, becoming a source of magic from midfield with three goals and four assists across all competitions.
As a result, Newcastle want to tie down Guimaraes to an improved contract, as his current deal expires in June 2028.
Toon supporters will welcome that news as he’s grown into a top-quality midfielder under Eddie Howe, but they won’t like hearing another update.

Bruno Guimaraes was absent from Newcastle training ahead of Athletic Club clash
Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s home clash against Athletic Club in the Champions League, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie confirmed that Guimaraes missed training.

“He was absent from training this morning Bruno Guimaraes, which will be a concern to the Newcastle supporters,” Downie said.
“He’s the beating heart of their side and he’s been in excellent form this season. Now he played against West Ham on Sunday, and there was actually some pictures that emerged of him before the match holding onto his stomach and speaking to the medical staff as though he had a bit of a problem.”
The Sky Sports reporter did offer a crumb of good news for fans, though, as it is still possible he will be available for the showdown at St James’ Park.
“He was then missing from training this morning, now I’m told that was him having a slight illness and he was recovering inside, and there is still hope that he will be fit to play against Athletic Club,” Downie added.
Possible chance for Jacob Ramsey vs Athletic Club
Should Guimaraes be ruled out of the tie, the door could open for Jacob Ramsey to start once more in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old was part of their midfield three last time out in the competition as Newcastle beat Benfica 3-0, thanks to a Harvey Barnes brace and an Anthony Gordon strike.
Ramsey joined Newcastle from Aston Villa during the summer and is currently fourth choice behind Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.
But with the Brazilian potentially set to miss this clash, the Englishman is the likely candidate to replace him, and hopefully, finally showcase why he was brought to the club for £43million.
