Bryan Mbuemo and Ollie Watkins react to Neal Maupay message as Man United move nears

Manchester United transfer target Bryan Mbeumo and former Brentford teammate Ollie Watkins have reacted to a message from Neal Maupay.

Mbeumo enjoyed a successful Premier League campaign last season, scoring 20 goals in the top flight for the Bees.

The Cameroon international formerly played alongside Watkins for Brentford in the Championship, forming a clinical front three with Said Benrahma.

Watkins has gone on to become Aston Villa’s record scorer in the Premier League, while the Frenchman went on loan to Marseille from Everton last season.

Amid interest from Man United, Tottenham are also interested in Mbeumo, while Spurs confirmed the appointment of Thomas Frank on Thursday, 12 June.

Meanwhile, Maupay posted on Instagram [12 June]: “Counting my blessings”, which attracted likes from both Watkins and Mbeumo.

The former Brighton striker notched four goals and four assists in 24 appearances for Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille last season.

Mbeumo will have to adjust his game to suit Amorim

There is no doubt that Mbeumo is an outstanding talent who performed admirably, scoring 20 goals and creating seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances for Brentford last season.

However, the former Troyes man has operated effectively for the Bees as a right winger, whereas Amorim has adopted a wing-back system at Man United.

In all likelihood, Mbeumo will operate either in Amorim’s double ‘number 10’ pivot behind the main striker, or as an out-and-out forward as opposed to inheriting unexpected defensive responsibilities.

But if the Cameroon international successfully adjusts to Man United’s system, he could prove to be a real asset for a Red Devils side whose last season left a lot to be desired.

Mbeumo will likely benefit from playing alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes and summer signing Matheus Cunha, who joined the North West side from Wolves.

Meanwhile, Man United are also keen on Viktor Gyokeres, who has established himself as one of the best goal-scorers in Europe throughout his time with Sporting.
