‘Bryan Mbeumo shock as Man United to accept demands for Brentford move’
Man United have caused surprise as they are believed to willing to meet Bryan Mbeumo’s massive wage demands as they near a move for the 25-year-old.
United’s 2024/25 season could not have gone much worse, with Ruben Amorim unable to help them improve any following his appointment as manager last November.
The Red Devils ended the campaign in 16th position in the Premier League, which was their worst league finish since 1974, while they also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham in a drab affair in Bilbao.
Amorim has a lot of work on his hands to fix his side’s issues, and he has already moved to add to his front-line with Wolves’ Matheus Cunha signed after United triggered his £62.5million release-clause.
The Portuguese boss needs to add more than just Cunha to his attack, though, with both Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford set to depart, and the club are after Mbeumo, who wants a huge pay increase from his Brentford deal to become among the highest paid at Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo wage demands rock Man United in the face of financial difficulties
Football Insider reported last month that the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and United were all keen to sign Mbeumo this summer, but the attacker’s preferred destination has now emerged as Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are believed to be edging closer to a move, following The Telegraph’s report that they have offered a package worth up to £55m for his services, and talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook reported live on air on Wednesday (June 4) that the Red Devils are set to agree to Mbeumo’s sizeable £250,000 weekly wage demands to join the club.
Crook admitted that the hefty pay packet “took (him) by surprise” considering United’s apparent financial difficulties and owner Jim Ratcliffe’s recent cost-cutting measures, but they are clearly keen to have the Cameroonian international on board as soon as possible in their quest for improvements next term.
United are right to try and sign Mbeumo to fix Amorim’s attack
Football Insider verdict
Mbeumo looks set to be on his way to Old Trafford soon, and despite so many recent transfer failures, it does finally feel like they are on the right track in looking to capture the Cameroonian international.
The pacey forward has built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most prolific scorers over the last few years, even though he had never played in the top-flight prior to the Bees’ promotion from the Championship in 2021.
It took a bit of time for him to adjust to the league’s demands in his first campaign, but he then netted nine goals in both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, and recently enjoyed his best term yet with 20 strikes and eight assists in 38 appearances.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |
242 | 70 | 51 |
Those figures placed him third in the Premier League charts for combined goals and assists in 2024/25, only behind Mo Salah and Alexander Isak, so it is clear that he is a player coming into his prime, and also one that understands English football with it being nearly six years since he first joined Brentford.
United need someone like him who can run the channels and make life hard for defenders, and head-coach Amorim clearly agrees, having criticised his players as “soft” back in February [ESPN].
His potential presence in their team is sure to give the Red Devils a huge boost going forward into next season, and the link-up that him and new man Cunha could provide would surely serve as one of the deadliest front lines in the whole league, so it is imperative that United get a deal done for the 25-year-old.
