Bukayo Saka and James Maddison react to Aaron Ramsdale post amid West Ham links

Aaron Ramsdale’s latest Instagram post has garnered attention following rumours linking the Southampton goalkeeper with a return to the top flight.

Ramsdale endured a difficult season after suffering relegation from the Premier League for the fourth time in his career following a bleak campaign for Southampton.

The Saints finished bottom of the Premier League table with just 12 points from 38 games, with Ramsdale conceding 86 goals and keeping just three clean sheets.

A return to the Championship for Southampton means Ramsdale, who they signed for £25million last summer from Arsenal, is likely to leave the club with Premier League sides among those interested in his services.

Ramsdale post liked by former Arsenal teammate

Ramsdale took to Instagram (16 June) to post a picture of him and his partner Georgina following their marriage with the caption: “The Ramsdales” and a white love heart emoji.

Former Arsenal teammate Bukayo Saka and Tottenham midfielder James Maddison were among those to react to the post.

Maddison replied: “unreal mate”, also with a white love heart emoji, whilst Saka liked the post.

The goalkeeper is currently enjoying the post-season break before he is expected to leave Southampton for a Premier League side, with West Ham one of the clubs pursuing his signature.

Ramsdale looks to reignite career

Football Insider Verdict

Graham Potter is expected to undergo a rebuild of the West Ham squad this summer, with a new goalkeeper on his list of priorities.

Despite a difficult spell at Saints, Ramsdale has proven to be a quality shot stopper in the Premier League, and Potter wants the former Arsenal goalkeeper to become his new number one in East London.

Lukasz Fabianski will be leaving the club as a free agent at the end of June, meaning Potter is looking for competition for 32-year-old Alphonse Areola.

Ramsdale will be keen to reignite his career and also return to the England squad before the World Cup in 2026.

Thomas Tuchel did not select the 27-year-old in his latest England squad for the games against Andorra and Senegal.

Tuchel opted to call up Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Crystal Palace shot stopper Dean Henderson, and Burnley’s James Trafford ahead of Ramsdale.

Pickford looks set to continue as England’s number one, but Ramsdale can force his way back into the conversation if he rekindles the type of form which made him a firm fan favourite at Arsenal.
