Football Insider verdict:
Alwnick is never going to displace Wes Foderingham or Allan McGregor as number one at Ibrox and a move makes sense for the keeper. Despite impressing in the final few games of the season, Alnwick still always looked a bit uncomfortable and was already well behind Foderingham before the Gers even signed McGregor. With Robby McCrorie getting closer to being ready for first-team football it only adds even more pressure on Alnwick. Hopefully, the Gers can get a decent fee for him although, with his chances of games looking almost nil, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his deal ended early. He’ll no doubt thrive somewhere else once he leaves Rangers but he was never likely to be anything more than a backup keeper from the moment he signed. At 24, getting regular games will be vital at this stage of Alnwick’s career too and he won’t want to spend it sat in the stands watching the Gers.
