Caicedo and Cucurella react to Trevoh Chalobah message amid Chelsea exit rumours

Chelsea stars Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella have reacted to a heartfelt message from teammate Trevoh Chalobah as his Blues future hangs in the balance.

Chelsea are competing in the Champions League again next season after finishing fourth in the Premier League, and they are set to be busy in the transfer market this summer as a result.

Centre-back Chalobah played his part in their success last campaign, after he was recalled to Stamford Bridge in January from an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old featured 18 times under Enzo Maresca in the second-half of the season, with a start in their Conference League final triumph over Real Betis, and he was rewarded for his strong form with a first call-up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel last month.

Rumours around Chalobah’s potential Blues exit have emerged in recent weeks, and he has now taken to social media to send a message in the face of those links.

Trevoh Chalobah sends emotional message on England debut

Palace were believed to be plotting a fresh move to re-sign Chalobah [The Mail] last month, but no new developments have materialised since, despite Tottenham and Liverpool both being interested in a swoop for Marc Guehi.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (10 June) that Chelsea want to sell other centre-backs over Chalobah this summer, after The Telegraph reported Serie A champions Napoli’s interest in his services on 6 June.

The 25-year-old made his England debut in a friendly against Senegal on Tuesday evening, as Tuchel’s side fell to a shock 3-1 defeat at the City Ground, and he took to his Instagram page to react to his maiden Three Lions appearance with an emotional post, saying: “Honoured to make my debut…Psalm 9:10. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.”

Chalobah’s message was reacted to by a number of his Chelsea teammates, with Caicedo, Cucurella, Tosin Adarabioyo, Pedro Neto and Nicolas Jackson all liking his post, while Arsenal star Declan Rice left a comment, saying: “what a journey” with three red heart emojis.

Chelsea must keep Chalobah as Maresca prepares for defensive shake-up this summer

Football Insider verdict

Chelsea have been noted for their extravagant spending in their search for success over the last few years, and that looks set to continue into the coming months with sizeable fees already spent on Sporting CP duo Dario Essugo and Geovany Quenda ahead of next season.

The Blues’ defensive record last term was an impressive one, as they let in just 43 Premier League goals to finish the campaign with the third-strongest backline in the top-flight, but that has not stopped Maresca in his desire to freshen up his options this summer.

Chalobah’s Chelsea career statistics

Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has revealed that the Blues are set to accept offers for centre-backs Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi in the summer window, and so it is clear that they want to keep Chalobah in the face of interest from Napoli.

The 25-year-old has kicked on over the last few months to become a key man at the heart of Maresca’s defence, and he has the ability to improve even further as he gains more experience at international and European level.

It would make little sense to sell him right now, and Blues fans will be pleased to learn of their club’s stance on his future, with his recent inclusion as part of their Club World Cup squad surely serving as confirmation that he is not going anywhere, anytime soon.
