Caicedo and Neto react to Marc Guiu’s update as Chelsea exit rumours swirl
Moises Caicedo and Pedro Neto have reacted to a new update from Marc Guiu as speculation around his future at Chelsea beyond this summer mounts.
Guiu joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer after they activated a €6million (£5.2m) release clause in his contract [The Athletic] and tied him down to a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old had only featured seven times for Barca’s first-team when he departed the club, and while he was handed 16 appearances by Enzo Maresca last season, he mainly only played in Conference League and cup games.
Guiu netted six times in those outings, but with a lack of regular game-time likely under Maresca after Chelsea brought in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and signed Joao Pedro from Brighton, he looks set to leave on loan this summer.
Ipswich are believed to be targeting Guiu following their relegation to the Championship, and Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Chelsea have “opened doors” for him to leave on loan soon, with a “clear priority” for him to stay and play in England next season.

Guiu was a part of Chelsea’s CWC-winning squad in the USA, which speaks to how highly-rated he is at the club, but he made just two appearances in their triumph, twice coming off the bench in group games.

He has been given an extended break by the club after the tournament, along with the rest of their main squad, and took to Instagram on Monday (28 July) to share an update of his summer break away from Chelsea with his family and friends.
Guiu’s post was reacted to by a number of his Blues teammates, as Caicedo, Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Dario Essugo and Aaron Anselmino all left likes in response.

Guiu needs to leave Chelsea on loan as soon as possible
Football Insider verdict
Guiu’s talent has been clear for all to see at Chelsea, despite his fleeting appearances, after he bagged a first-half hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League for the first three-goal haul of his short career so far.
He also had an instant impact on Barca’s senior side at just 17-years-old in 2023, as he netted within 23 seconds of his competitive debut to become the youngest and fastest debutant to score for the Catalan giants in La Liga.
With that said, it does feel unlikely that he will be a part of Maresca’s plans for next season, and even for the years to come, considering their strength in depth in attack right now with Pedro, Delap, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku all vying for places up-front ahead of him.
Football Insider recently revealed that Chelsea are planning for out-of-form striker Jackson to remain at Stamford Bridge for the season ahead, and that would leave Guiu as fourth-choice with Nkunku seemingly on his way out, which isn’t good for him at his age.
Guiu was linked to West Brom in January, but the young Spaniard may not want to drop to the Championship with the Baggies or Ipswich due to his background at Barca.
He does need to go somewhere where he will be trusted to be a starter each week in a competitive environment, though, and a move to a competitive La Liga side does seem ideal if the financials involved in a deal can be agreed.
