Caixinha offers bizarre recommendation to Rangers players

By Aramide Oladipo

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has bizarrely recommended that his players top up on their Vitamin D in order to improve their performances in the league.

The Glaswegian club produced a fine display to beat St Johnstone 3-0 away from home on Friday evening with a brace from Carlos Pena and midfielder Graham Dorrans.

The result meant that Rangers have now won three consecutive matches on the road in all competitions.

Caixinha’s men currently sit in third place in the SPL table and they are six points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic and second-placed Aberdeen.

Although the Gers have improved their results in recent weeks, Caixinha believes that his squad can perform better if they manage to get more vitamin D in their system.

“Pedro Mendes told me about the need for sunlight,” he said as quoted in the Scottish Sun.

“He used to go on a sunbed to make sure he got vitamin D.

“The players can also take a plane and go wherever they want on their time off. It is part of their lives and they need to understand it.

“I need to incentivise them to do it. I have spoken to the doctor about the need for vitamin D and I think it is part of the players’ prescriptions here.

“You need to take it because your bones need it. It is important to have it or you will look grey and not great.”

Although it might appear to be a strange suggestion from the Portuguese, a number of English Premier League clubs have travelled to Dubai in the middle of the season to take in the sunshine in recent years.

Using Pedro Mendes as an example would be a great incentive for his players given the fact that he played an integral role in helping Rangers secure the league title during the 2008-9 campaign.

Caixinha will hopeful that his players can continue their fine form when they welcome Motherwell to Ibrox for the League Cup semi-final next weekend.

In other Rangers news, a £7.5million midfielder is firmly in the running to be the club’s next signing.
