Callum Wilson: Eddie Howe makes Newcastle United exit decision – sources
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is keen to keep striker Callum Wilson at the club, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the Magpies manager sees a future for the 32-year-old at St James’ Park despite his injury problems and dwindling contract.
Wilson is edging closer to a return to full fitness after undergoing surgery on a pectoral muscle injury earlier this year and has been pictured in full training in recent days.
The England international will have just 12 months remaining on his contract on Tyneside in June.
He has made just 22 appearances across all competitions this term, starting in 11 of those outings.
Wilson has struggled with multiple muscle injuries which have affected his chest, calf and hamstring – limiting his involvement for Howe’s side.
Newcastle boss Howe keen to keep Wilson despite injury concerns
He was linked with a potential switch in the January transfer window amid Financial Fair Play concerns at Newcastle.
Nevertheless, he is seen as a key part of the Magpies’ side in the future despite his lack of availability.
The striker signed a new two-year contract at St James’ Park in September 2023.
He joined the Magpies in 2020 and has gone on to score 46 goals in 104 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Alexander Isak has stepped up in Wilson’s absence, scoring 21 goals in 34 games in all competitions – including seven in his last six Premier League outings.
Newcastle sit sixth in the top flight and are well-placed to secure European qualification this term despite their struggles with injury this term.
