‘Callum Wilson is finished at Newcastle’ – Fans want William Osula answers
Callum Wilson’s substitute appearance against Brighton has left Newcastle fans asking Eddie Howe what is going on with William Osula.
Both strikers started the FA Cup tie on the bench, with Alexander Isak, who is a top target for Liverpool, keeping his spot in the starting XI and giving the Magpies a lead from the penalty spot at St James’ Park on 2 March.
Yankubah Minteh evened up the scores in the first half, and with little separating the two sides in normal time, Anthony Gordon‘s red card was the next biggest talking point.
The former Everton winger lashed out at Jan Paul van Hecke, with Keith Hackett telling Football Insider that Anthony Taylor was left with no other choice but to give Gordon his marching orders.
With the game going to extra time, Howe made the tough decision to replace Isak with Wilson, with Osula remaining on the bench for the entire game.
Newcastle supporters want to see more of William Osula
Osula has often been overlooked by Howe since returning from his loan spell at Sheffield United, making ten Premier League appearances this season but none coming from the start.
The 21-year-old only has one goal to his name in 15 games across all competitions, but with no consistent run of minutes in the team, it is impossible for the youngsters to hit the ground running.
However, when finally being given an opportunity as a starter against Birmingham City in the previous round, he notched two assists in the comeback victory against League One opposition.
He is clearly a very talented young striker but continues to be kept on the bench when Newcastle are desperate for a new source of goals.

Callum Wilson “finished” at St James Park after Brighton display
Wilson, who has been injured for much of the past two seasons, was trusted due to his seniority and vast experiences, but his performance was far from ideal as Newcastle were knocked out of the FA Cup.
The 33-year-old completed just five passes, had 10 touches of the ball and lost 100 per cent of his ground duels, as per FotMob, in 34 minutes of football.
After being unable to record a single shot, which was even more key after Danny Welbeck‘s 114th-minute goal, fans have attacked the “useless” veteran online after the defeat.
One supporter has questioned how Wilson gets more game time than Osula while another labelled him a “statue” when standing up front.
