Calvert-Lewin on 'thin ice' with Everton teammates after Sky development - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has heaped praise on the “very brave” Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his punditry as Everton lost 2-1 to Wolves on Monday night.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Calvert-Lewin would have been on “thin ice” at the training ground the next day.

The striker has not featured for Everton since the end of August and appeared on Sky’s Monday Night Football this week.

He discussed his side’s 2-1 loss at Molineux with Jamie Carragher and host Dave Jones as well as his career to date.

“It was very brave,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I would never have done that, to be honest. You put yourself in an awkward position.

“It’s alright, as an ex-player, criticising your ex-team but as a player that’s playing with that squad you’re on thin ice in the changing room the next day.

“To be fair to him, like I would have done, he sat on the fence which is good. They are your teammates, they were poor, but you’ve got to see them in the morning so you can’t criticise them.

“You’re seeing it a lot more from players these days and fair play to them if they want to dip their toe into the media world.

“You’ve got to know not to criticise your teammates, which he didn’t.”

Calvert-Lewin scored three times in the opening three Premier League games of the season.

The Toffees have only won two of their seven top-flight fixtures without their star striker.
