Calvin Bassey sends hilarious message to Antonee Robinson as Fulham stun Liverpool

Fulham star Calvin Bassey responded to a message from teammate Antonee Robinson after a surprise 3-2 win over Liverpool.

Ahead of the match-up between the two sides, the Reds had only lost one in 30 Premier League games, as they storm towards a second league title this century.

However, Fulham have previously caused issues for Liverpool at Craven Cottage, with the Merseyside club winning only once in the five games that preceded the meeting between the two on Sunday (6 April).

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring for the Reds, but three defensive mistakes allowed Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz to give the Whites a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.

Liverpool responded in the 72nd minute when substitute and Newcastle target Luis Diaz scored a tidy finish, but the damage done in the first half was irreparable, and Fulham held on for a richly deserved win over the champions-elect.

Antonee Robinson thanks Fulham fans for ‘amazing support’

Following the shock win over Liverpool, Robinson posted four images from the game to Instagram, captioned: “BIG +3. Thanks everyone for the amazing support, 7 games left and lots to fight for”.

Bassey responded to his USA international teammate by saying: “[Expletive] this guy can’t stop running bruv I did 1 overlap and I was dead”.

Robinson’s lung-busting runs have made him a Liverpool target, as the Reds look to replace Andy Robertson, who was at fault for Fulham’s second goal, after two poor clearances allowed Iwobi to hit a shot that deflected off the Scotland international and past Bournemouth target Caoimhin Kelleher.

Fulham’s tough run-in may suit them in push for Europe

Football Insider Verdict

The stumbling block on Fulham’s push for European football hasn’t been meetings with England’s biggest and best clubs this season.

The Cottagers have actually stumbled more frequently against the sides they may have expected to beat.

Losses to West Ham, Wolves, and Crystal Palace, plus draws against Ipswich, Southampton and Everton, have undermined wins against Man United, Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea.

As such, Fulham have failed to capitalise on their rivals dropping points, however, with the Whites facing some of the Premier League‘s biggest sides in their final seven games, Marco Silva’s side may actually be in a better position to qualify for Europe than the fixture list may suggest.

Matches against local rivals, Brentford and Chelsea, will be key tests for the Whites as the club looks to qualify for European competition for the first time in 13 years.
