Cameron Carter-Vickers: Ex-Celtic star shares ‘shock’ verdict after what he’s seen in person

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by Cameron Carter-Vickers’ recent performances for Celtic.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also reiterated his desire to see the defender join Celtic permanently.

Carter-Vickers, 24, has made 35 appearances for the Bhoys since joining on loan from Tottenham in the summer of 2021.

Celtic have conceded the fewest goals in the Scottish Premiership this season (18) with the American only missing 90 minutes of league action across the current campaign.

He also scored in the Hoops’ 2-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday (3 March), impressing McAvennie who was in attendance.

“I thought it was great that Carter-Vickers got that goal,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s a big lad and he’s got a couple of goals for Celtic now. It’s been a while since we had a dominating defender who can score.

“It had to be him against St Mirren because the strikers weren’t quite at it on the night.

“That happens, and when it does you need to count on your other players and luckily we could.

“It wasn’t a great performance but Carter-Vickers stood up when he was needed.

“I still hope we sign him in the summer as long as the money is right, we shouldn’t overpay.

“But he’s clearly a key part of this side and it would shock me if we didn’t get him.”

Spurs insider John Wenham has previously told this site (6 December) Carter-Vickers could be signed for as little as £3million.
