Cameron Carter-Vickers facing Celtic axe after confirmed news – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has claimed Cameron Carter-Vickers will be rested for Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker has backed Ange Postecoglou to make changes for the Scottish Cup clash against Greenock Morton.

The Celts were drawn against the Championship club in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

The match is due to be played on 21 January, just over a month after the return of the Scottish Premiership.

Carter-Vickers has been in Qatar with the USA team and helped his side progress to the last 16.

The Americans were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands on Saturday (3 December) and knocked out of the competition.

Celtic have already announced two new signings, defenders Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi, ahead of the return of the Scottish top flight.

When asked if Postecoglou would be willing to field a massively changed team in the cup game, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think there will be one or two but I do not think Ange will make the sweeping changes that he has done in the past.

It has not worked.

Celtic supporters, ask every one of them, they want to win the treble. Ange knows that. No disrespect to Greenock Morton, they are a decent team with a good manager now.

Celtic

There will not be anyone surprising coming in I would not think. If everything goes to plan, all the new players will be playing anyway. That is two changes already I would not think there will be any more.

“Carter-Vickers will get a rest and he will get a heroes welcome when he comes back.

In other news, a pundit has claimed Celtic ‘should be worried’ after what I have seen from Michael Beale.
