Cameron Carter-Vickers facing extended spell on Celtic sidelines – pundit

Cameron Carter-Vickers could still be facing a few more weeks on the sidelines for Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said it is “great news” that Carter-Vickers was fit enough to travel with the squad to Portugal.

The 25-year-old missed the last month of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee problem that had been impinging him for much of the season.

The centre-back was initially expected to return at the end of August but is believed to be making solid progress and is targeting the first league game of the season on 5 August.

Carter-Vickers joined up with the rest of the squad as they headed to Portugal for pre-season camp last week (10 July) ahead of their trip to Japan.

Hutton insisted it’s good news for the Hoops to have their star defender back on the grass.

I think it is a great sign,” he told Football Insider.

I do not think they will want to rush him, they will be monitoring his minutes, monitoring his training, they will not want to throw him in to the deep end and there is no reason to do that.

He is their number one defender and they will want him fit. If they can monitor it and if it has to take a few extra weeks until he is back playing then so be it.

It is a real good sign that he has actually travelled with the team so he must be fit enough to get back on the grass which is great for Celtic moving forward.

In other news, Celtic make move to sign 26-yr-old with same agent as Kieran Tierney.
