Campbell ‘100 per cent’ sure on Manuel Akanji as Man City ‘scare’ revealed
Kevin Campbell has claimed Manuel Akanji is “thriving” in the presence of “great” players at Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 27-year-old is “a steal” for the price of £15million.
The Cityzens signed Akanji from Borussia Dortmund on 1 September.
The centre-half has already established himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet at the Etihad.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (9 October), Pep Guardiola hailed the “huge impact” the Switzerland international has had on his side.
Guardiola admitted he was “scared” to play Akanji at right-back against Southampton but later said the defender produced an “absolutely perfect” performance.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Akanji’s start, Campbell said: “I have been really impressed.
“He had another great game at the weekend.
“Listen, he was a good player at Borussia Dortmund but we are seeing the best of him now. He is thriving in what is a great side. He is showing what a top player he can be in a great side.

“When you have players like Rodri and [Kevin] De Bruyne in front of him… Sometimes he does not have a lot to do. Let’s be honest, Man City have dominated their last few games.
“Is Akanji a good player and a good signing? For the money, 100 per cent. City got a very, very good price. They stole him for £15million. I do not think he is making that big a difference to City though.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Man City are poised to exploit a political U-turn and sign multiple rising stars.
