Campbell backs Arsenal to sign 'amazing' Buendia after 'great' reported update

Kevin Campbell has told Arsenal to forget about signing Martin Odegaard permanently this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker urged the club to instead concentrate their efforts on capturing Championship player of the season Emiliano Buendia, 24.

Odegaard has impressed since moving to the Emirates on loan in January and such success could price the London club out of a permanent move for the attacking midfielder.

According to Goal, Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Buendia as they look at alternatives to Odegaard ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Technical director Edu is said to be a big fan of the Argentine who contributed 15 goals and 17 assists in 39 appearances for Championship winners Norwich in the 2020-21 campaign.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if he would welcome the arrival of Buendia, Campbell said: “I don’t think Odegaard is going to stay.

“Real Madrid need him next season. Real made sure they were in a strong position because there was no clause in the contract that allowed Arsenal to buy him at the end of the season. They don’t want to sell him.

“Buendia is a player that has Premier League experience and he knows what English football is all about. He is ready to take the next step now.

“He should be the club’s number one target in that position this summer so it’s great news if they’re stepping up their interest.

“Buendia is an amazing player and it was no surprise he was voted the best player in the Championship this season.”
