Campbell backs Aston Villa chief Purslow after 'amazing' development 'all of a sudden'
Kevin Campbell “totally agrees” with Aston Villa chief Christian Purslow on the need for an independent regulator in English football.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said it is “nonsense” to suggest an independent regulator is necessary.
According to Tracey Crouch’s Fan-led Review of Football Governance (24 November), an independent regulator is the best way for English football to reset its relationship with supporters.
Speaking on talkSPORT (25 November), Villa chief executive Christian Purslow slammed the finding of the review.
Purslow said the solution, not the problem lies within the Premier League.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the proposals, Campbell said: “Independent regulators are a nonsense.

“I totally agree with Christian Purslow. Why do you need regulator?
“The people coming in to these clubs are either fit to come in or they are not. You do not need regulator for that.
“It is amazing how, all of a sudden, this has happened. The Newcastle situation has caused a big stir.
“Forget all of this other stuff. From a purely footballing point of view, the club was up for sale and somebody has bought it. Are they fit and proper? Yes, they are. Do they have the money? Yes. What else is there?”
Speaking on talkSPORT, Purslow said: “I had a great conversation with Tracey Crouch in the summer, but I don’t think the problem lies with the Premier League, but the solution lies in the Premier League.
“Can we work with Tracey to work out the problems, do we need an independent regulator? Probably not.”
