Campbell backs West Ham fans after Said Benrahma details emerge

Kevin Campbell has suggested West Ham fans are well within their right to boo David Moyes’s decision to substitute Said Benrahma.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the Hammers have opened themselves up to criticism after dropping their levels this season.

West Ham lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium on Sunday (6 November).

Sections of home supporters booed Moyes’ decision to replace Benrahma with Manuel Lanzini shortly after the hour mark.

Benrahma was the scorer of the Irons’ only goal of the game.

As quoted by Football.London (6 November), Moyes defended the decision in his post-match press conference.

The Hammers boss revealed it was “touch and go” as to whether Benrahma would play in the match because of a knee problem.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the boos at the London Stadium, Campbell said: “West Ham are not playing at the levels they have set as a team.

“When you are not playing at that level, the fans are going to let you know it. That is why the fans booed David Moyes’ decision to bring Benrahma off.

“I have no problem with Moyes explaining why he brought Benrahma off. However, the fans paid money to be in the stadium so they will let you know if they disagree with a decision with you are not playing well.

“The fact of the matter is, Benrahma has been one of West Ham’s best and most exciting players recently. They want him on the pitch.”
