Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier for his display against Everton on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Toffees and Arsenal striker hailed the “fantastic” 20-year-old who has all of the attributes needed to be a top goalkeeper.
The France Under-21 international produced an eye-catching display, along with counterpart Jordan Pickford, as Leeds won at Goodison Park for the first time since 1990.
The 1-0 victory was Marcelo Bielsa’s side four clean sheet in the league this term with Meslier playing an integral role in each of those games.
He also completed all 18 of his short passes against Everton, as well as three of his four long passes, as per Wyscout.
At 20 years of age, Meslier is the youngest Premier League number one with Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale, who is two years his senior, the second youngest.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Meslier’s performance, Campbell said: “I really like this kid.
“Meslier is fantastic, he looks very calm with the ball at his feet, marshals his back four really well and is a great shot-stopper.
“I thought he played very well against Everton on Saturday and the scoreline could have been very different if it was not for both goalkeepers.
“I really like Meslier, I think he has a bright future.”
Speaking on his number one earlier this month, Bielsa said: “He’s a player who is very strong mentally and has character.
“To play in the Premier League always demands you to be strong mentally.”
