Kevin Campbell is over the moon for Arsenal loanee Joe Willock after he scored on his debut for Newcastle United.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is pleased that the 21-year-old has swapped the “brutal” environment of the Emirates for St. James’ Park so he can “express himself” and “develop”.
Willock scored just 16 minutes into his Newcastle United debut, after he agreed to join the club on loan for the remainder of the season on deadline day.
The centre-midfielder made 17 appearances for Arsenal in the first half of the 2020/21 campaign but was predominantly used as a substitute.
Campbell believes Willock’s loan spell at Newcastle will be very beneficial.
“Willock is a very good young player,” he told Football Insider.
“Obviously, it was very difficult for him to get momentum at Arsenal because he was not playing a lot of first team football.
“Newcastle came in for him and he can express himself up there. He can play his game there and this move really suits him.
“It is always amazing to get a goal in your debut. I wish him well because I think he is a talented player.
“He needs to develop his game and he needs experience to do that. It is difficult to develop as a young player at Arsenal right now because it is brutal. The club are not where they are supposed to be.”
