Campbell expects Rangers to mount ‘brilliant’ title comeback after what he’s seen from Scott Arfield
The experience of Scott Arfield and company could “drag” Rangers back into title contention in the final five games of the season, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the Ibrox club to capitalise if leaders Celtic were to “mess up” during the run-in.
Arfield’s 78th-minute strike forced extra-time during Sunday’s (17 April) Scottish Cup win over the Hoops – with a Carl Starfelt 114th-minute own goal eventually giving Rangers a place in the showpiece final.
As per Transfermarkt, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side is the oldest in the Scottish Premiership on average – while Celtic’s is the third-youngest.
The Parkhead side have a six-point advantage atop the table and the two sides meet again on 1 May.
Campbell suggested Rangers could yet overturn the deficit.
“Rangers have got such an experienced squad and a brilliant squad,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“But up to now, Celtic have just been better – in the league. They’ve been more vibrant and more energetic.
“But I’ve got to say, Rangers deserved to win in the Scottish Cup. It was a close-fought game, but they shaded it.
“Could that experience now drag them back into title contention? It could. But that would require Celtic messing up in the last five games.”

Rangers are in league action tomorrow (23 April) against Motherwell at Fir Park.
Van Bronckhorst’s side also continue to fly the flag for Scotland in the Europa League – and face the first leg of their semi-final against Leipzig next Thursday (28 April).
