Campbell fumes over Liverpool development ‘making a mockery’ of the Premier League
Kevin Campbell has backed Jurgen Klopp after the FA decided against punishing the Liverpool manager for his comments about referee Paul Tierney.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the inconsistency of officiating “is making a mockery of the Premier League.”
Liverpool felt they should have had a penalty and that Harry Kane should have been sent off in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game (19 December), Klopp said Tierney “has a problem with me” and added that he was not “an objective ref.”
However, as revealed by The Times’ Paul Joyce (21 December), the FA have decided to take no further action.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Klopp’s outburst, Campbell said:
“I tell you what, the FA are not going to fine him because they have probably seen the decisions! They must’ve been like, ‘We better not get involved.’
“His reaction was fully justified. If Robertson’s was a red then Harry Kane has to go as well. Let’s be brutally honest, the Kane one was an awful decision.
“Where is the consistency? It is making a mockery of the Premier League.
“Jurgen Klopp is right to call the referee out on it. He is right.

“The personal stuff with the referee is his business but Klopp is bang on when he says the Kane challenge has to be a red if the Robertson one is.
“If Kane is sent off, Liverpool win the game. The margins are so fine. You expect the referee to do his job but he didn’t.”
