Campbell fumes over Newcastle United controversy after new Callum Wilson dig
Kevin Campbell has slammed VAR after Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson aimed a new dig at official Lee Mason.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker supported Wilson’s viewpoint and bemoaned the fact that VAR “keeps messing up”.
On 3 September, the Magpies looked to have opened the scoring against Crystal Palace when defender Tyrick Mitchell turned the ball into his own net.

However, referee Michael Salisbury ruled out the goal after consulting the pitch-side monitor on the advice of VAR official Mason.
Speaking to Michail Antonio on The Footballer’s Football Podcast (12 September), Callum Wilson voiced his frustration with VAR.
He also revealed that Lee Mason briefed Eddie Howe’s side on how referees would be “more lenient” in the Premier League this season.
Campbell claimed the two points that should have been gained from the game would make “a huge difference” to the Magpies this season.
“Listen, I’m not a Newcastle fan and I am not happy about it,” he told Football Insider. “God knows how the players feel.
“We are talking about VAR all of the time. They keep messing up. It is poor. It is really poor.
“The [Joe] Willock decision is so poor but what can you do?

“Those two lost points could cost them at the end of the season. It should have been a routine decision.
“The draws can catch up with you. You need to win your home games. An extra couple of points would make a huge difference to Newcastle right now because they would jump a few places.”
