Campbell hails 'incredible' Davis and reveals what Gerrard really thinks of him at Rangers

Kevin Campbell has lauded Steven Davis after Rangers manager Steven Gerrard highlighted the importance of the midfielder to his side.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the “incredible” 36-year-old would have appreciated his gaffer’s recognition.

Davis starred in the Teddy Bears’ 6-1 win over Motherwell on Sunday.

The centre-midfielder contributed an assist, six accurate long balls, three key passes, three clearances, three tackles and two interceptions in what was a masterful display. (WhoScored)

Speaking to club media after the win, Gerrard heaped praise on the Northern Ireland international despite being questioned about hat-trick hero Fashion Sakala.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Davis’ consistency of performance, Campbell said: “It is incredible.

“What a quality player he is. Up there, in Scotland, he has still got it.

“It is always nice when the manager recognises your performance even if you are not getting the plaudits from the media and the fans.

“Gerrard absolutely loves the way he plays and he realises that the team rely on him heavily.

“Davis has been so key to the success of Rangers under Gerrard.”

Speaking after the win, Gerrard said: “First and foremost, let us mention Steven Davis. An absolute midfield masterclass.

“It was not just the passing and the running. It was the second balls and the positional play. Everything about him was outstanding.”
